Things are looking up: 3.I feel my art is improving. I got my first paid commission recently :D 2. I've lost 5 kilos in recent times. I've been lazy and so changes have all been to my diet (just been watching what I've been eating). I'm 10kg's off my target (my eyelids look thinner XD). Mum's joined Weight Watchers so she's being more concious about the food she buys supermarket shopping, which helps even more. 1. I got a 'job'! Well, technically I'm not an employee, but it's out working in the environment around where I live <3 It's physical work, so it should help me lose even more weight.
So... yay!

| | happy | ] | Yay - I've finally saved up enough money to buy some more mohair! Enough to make 8 small-medium bears, in nice dense wavy fur. Yum. Of course, I need to save up some more to buy matching coloured thread (sewing & upholstery), glass eyes, joint sets and polyfill D:
I need a job... |

A week ago I was sitting in the Domain waiting paitently with the others for Tropfest to start. We'd been worried that we were on the train (where I decided the voice for the city circle stop announcements sounds like Sandra Sulley). Some nice views, though.

It turns out we were on the right train, regardless. We found our way there and set up under one of the giant Morten Bay Figs, noticing the clouds insicent on hovering overhead. The movies started. Some of them weren't my taste, but there were others that were brilliant. Notable was "The Story of Bubbleboy" and "Carmichael & Shane" (which, of course, turned out to clean up in the awards). I absolutely adored "Carnivore Reflux".

Into the 13th film it started pouring with rain, far too much for a single tree to block. Like everyone else, we took cover under what we could. I pulled the picnic blanket over my head, which covered me in fuzz and bits of tanbark. 90,000 people rushed out of the Domain, trying (and failing) to leap over half-metre deep pools rapidly forming in the gutters. And so we walked. We started looking for bars, and when we finally found a few decided they wouldn't let us in for lack of ID and the state we were in. So we kept wandering. Many people I'm sure thought we were drunkards. Grant penguin-sliding down the streets on his belly didn't help, I'm sure. But we were all on a natural high! So it couldn't be helped. Regardless, we finally arrived at Central Station, were we eventually were picked up.
This week has been the first in awhile in which I've used time wisely. On Wednesday, between the days of my course, I finally get my Learner's license, and rang the vet. I had my first attempt at driving, which was terrifing. On Friday I handed in my resume to the vet, and headed down to Luke's. We just hung around until we went to Penrith to pick up the 600+ photos he and his mum had put in for printing D: I ended up sleeping over. Yesterday we went down to the Australian Museum for the last day of the 'Making a Monster' exhibit. It was great, and probably good for Luke's B-Design course. We wanted to go to back in and sneak some pictures, but unfortunatly after looking at all the other exhibits (<3 skeleton setups) we were out of time. We had a nummy caramel slice, checked out the store and left. We did see lots of dinosaur, prehistoric fauna and Star Wars books that would have been awesome to buy. Afterwards, we went to his Grandmother's for dinner. She was wonderful. Today was the usual food shopping, and the most of the rest of the day was taken up by day trips. I've advanced quite a bit already, I think! But there were a couple of jerky people, one who honked because I was 10km under the limit. The other guy ran in front of the car to cross the road, of course with young kids running after him. Apparently he leered at me 'cause the car almost stalled (since I had slowed so I wouldn't hit the kids). I should have hit him. |

[mood| artistic]
Well, I'm placed in my Animal Studies course, so yay. The orientation dragged on a bit, though. My particular class is Tuesdays & Thursdays 9.15 to 4 - shorter hours than a thought. The campus is great. Actually, it's mostly just thick green grass, but I was all "Oooo purdy.... OMG, HORSIES!!!". They also 'rely' on the students to being their pets in :D
I went to the Norman Lindsay gallery today. The old cartoon-y sketches were cool, of course (furries X) ). There was also one of his sketchbooks on display, open at a page with a 'story' about a pit game rooster (it started "Born in an incubator, he was a social outcast...") which was AWESOME. Me being the chicken-infatuated nut I am, I was sad because there was NOTHING related to it in the store D: But I did get a teatowel of two characters from the Magic Pudding, including a rooster. Hooray! Lindsay was extremely talented. His nudes (mostly oil paintings) were beautiful. He also had a fascination with Greek mythology, as there were many greek-style (though wingless) sphinxes, fauns and harpys around. His take on a few of these were interesting as well.
( My take under the cut )
Luke's away for a week D: *sad face*

Well, today was interesting. No, that was a lie. But Luke and I weren't allowed to buy tickets for Underworld Evolution becuase we didn't have 'suitable' photo ID to PROVE WE WERE 15 OR OVER. Keeping in mind we're both 18, Luke is something like 6'2" tall and hadn't shaved in a couple of days. It would have been funny, actually, if he'd done as later suggested and pulled out his uni acceptance letter as proof. Then I tried to find a shop that sells bearmaking supplies, which we walked right past, probably twice. And never noticed. Yay. Speaking of which, my bearmaking lesson on Monday was great, and I made a whole bear in one day. Which I need to take a better photo of.
Not doing much arty stuff at the moment. Blah. I should. |
